Part A: Letter Proposal to Principal

2017年Part A題目要求同學向校長寫建議信一封，提出探訪老人院的計劃，並描述該計畫的詳細內容和其對老人院的好處。文章的閱讀對象為校長，同學下筆時用字應禮貌正經（即語氣formal）。另外，文章屬Letter proposal，同學不要忘記上下款。

 

DSE English Writing 5**技巧：

設計活動時，同學可以思考老人家的需要／特徵，從而思考活動的內容，例如老人院的老人多數都沒有子女或不常見到子女，易感孤獨，故宜設計互動性強的活動，例如談心環節，減低其孤獨感。

同學不妨可以用計劃對各持分者的好處來組織文章。例子如下：

The programme yields a myriad of benefits to the elderly, the elderly home and to our school.

It is believed that with our student volunteers as company, loneliness of the elderly can be quenched.（下略正文）

On a separate note, participants can reduce workload of the staff at the elderly home by helping to looking after the elderly.（下略正文）

Most importantly, the programme can establish a good reputation for our school and promote holistic development of our students.（下略正文）

雖然題目未有要求，不過同學如果有足夠時間，還可以在文中寫及計劃對學校／參加學生的好處，進一步說服校長通過計畫。而且文中特意提到校方想與社區建立更緊密的關係(develop closer links with the community)，同學在寫信時亦可提到此點，解釋活動的目的。

 

筆者試寫一段，僅供參考：

The elderly at elderly home usually do not have the luxury to meet their children very often, especially when Hong Kong is such a fast-paced city. In light of this, it is proposed that a discourse session, where elderly can speak of their bottled-up emotions to our students to their heart’s content, to be conducted during our visit to the elderly home. It is believed that this practice can quench the loneliness of the elderly, thus contributing to their social and mental well-being.
