    part-time jobs

It is very common these days for students to be looking for part-time work during school holidays or even during the school term. Be it to earn extra pocket money, support your family, or simply to gain experience, here is how you can look for some part-time jobs!

Here are some tips you can look out for when applying for part-time jobs to find the best job for you.

    #1 Knowing your needs

It is very important to know what you want to achieve from your part-time job. Are you seeking a higher pay? Flexible working hours? Fulfilling experience? These are all factors you should consider prior to applying for the job. Run through the job requirements and see if you are willing to be engaging in the job scope day in day out.

If you are looking to earn extra pocket money or support your family’s income, then you might want to look for jobs that offer high pay.

If you are looking for fulfilling experiences that allows you to build up your portfolio, you may be better off applying for an internship as compared to a conventional part-time job!

    #2 Look far and wide.

Do not immediately apply for every job advertisement you come across! It is always important to seek alternatives and compare before you actually apply for the job. Is the company short-changing you? Is the company location suitable? What is the company’s environment like? If you already have something in mind, look for similar part-time job opportunities and compare the jobs before applying for the one you feel suits you best!

It is important to conduct your due research prior to applying for the job to ensure that you do not fall for scams! You can conduct a simple Google search to find out if the deal seems too good to be true. You know the saying "there's no free lunch in this world"? That is the most applicable here. If the offer seems too good to resist, it may be better to find out more about the company and use your judgement to determine if there are any scams or illegal activities involved.

    #3 Seek help if required

It can get difficult to look for part-time jobs on your own. With many other students looking for part-time jobs in the same holiday period, it can get very competitive and job offers may be difficult to find.

If you are unable to find any part-time jobs, fret not! There are a myriad of options available to help you out. Ranging from job agents, to job websites, do not be afraid to use these platforms as they are readily available to you.

Apart from these, there are also many other sources from which you can look for such opportunities from Telegram channels, to  newspapers or in-store advertisements.

    #4 Be committed

In any job full-time or part-time, it is always important to give it your best shot and not be slipshod about it! Companies like hardworking employees and more often than not, you will be rewarded for your hard work in one way or another.

It is always important to leave a good impression even though you may only be there for a few months. Who knows if you might return to the same company in the future! It is always good to get a part-time job or internship if you have no other commitments during the holidays. Not only does it help you pass time, but it also earns you some extra pocket money and gain work experience! You also get to meet new people and make new friends at your various part-time jobs.

Do not be afraid or hesitant to take up these opportunities. Make sure you maintain a healthy work-life balance— after all, you do not want to overcommit to your part-time job and compromise on your schoolwork!
