4 Ways To Make Studying For Physics Fun And Interesting

Physics, like Math, is often considered a tough subject with complex equations. As one moves from secondary to JC level physics, the learning curve gets much steeper and many students can feel overwhelmed. While it seems unlikely at first, there are actually multiple ways to ease the learning process and infuse more fun into the mix. Take a look at the list below to get some ideas you can put to practice today!

    1. Sketch Out A Diagram

Physics problems are often more easily solved with the help of visualisation. Many questions come with information like “calculate X given Y” and can be illustrated with a sketch. The more detailed your diagram is, the easier it is to find the solution. Many physics topics like kinematics, vectors and projectiles, Newton’s Law of Motion and Circular Motion and Gravitation can be more clearly understood with the help of simple diagrams. When in doubt, sketch it out and see the wonders that it can do!

    2. Participate in Online Physics Forums

You may feel helpless trying to solve Physics problems on your own, but participating in Physics forums can be enlightening. Online forums such as Physics Stackexchange, and The Physics forum help you to connect with other students as well as Physics hobbyists. Interact with other students and when you have a question, ask away! You can also answer questions by explaining concepts you know, thereby strengthening your own understanding.

    3. Watch Physics Comedies

Interestingly, many comedies have centered themselves around Science humor and Physics theories, most notably being The Big Bang Theory. While this does not look like your typical exam revision material, it can be used as comic relief with educational value while you take study breaks. To ensure that you are getting the most content out of the channel, you can also reference The 18 Smartest Big Bang Theory Episodes for a dive into complex physics theories. Follow up with a fact check with Google to ensure the accuracy of your takeaways.

    4. Read Weird Physics Facts

Sometimes you just need some weird Physics facts to stimulate your brain after back-to-back study sessions. A quick search online will open you up to a range of weird physics facts. For instance, do you know that if you traveled at the speed of light, time would stop? Or that the hydrogen atom makes up for the majority of atoms in the universe? You can streamline your search to the particular chapter(s) you are revising for school to get a more focused group of facts. Complete with online illustrations and animations, these mind-blowing facts may reignite your passion when you are feeling unmotivated.

    5. Watch Physics Channels

The animation and music in videos can stimulate your senses and clarify your understanding of concepts. There are many Physics YouTube channels out there to facilitate your learning while not compromising on the fun.

For instance, CrashCourse is known for its short, high quality educational videos with vivid animations. Khan Academy Physics is known for its in-depth explanations of physics concepts such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, work and energy, and torque and momentum. DrPhysicsA contains videos to specifically assist A Level students with their revision as well as videos focusing on specific concepts and theories. Find the right fit for your learning stage, and these free resources will prove a tremendous help.

Physics is no doubt a challenging subject, especially in its advanced form in A-Levels. However, no matter where you are at, there are always ways to make the learning process more enjoyable. Take advantage of the myriad resources out there, and you will get closer to acing the subject.
